Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain. Once there, His appearance changed from the inside out. Sunlight poured from His face! His clothes were filled with light! The disciples realized that Moses and Elijah were talking with Jesus.

Imagine that sight!

Then a voice from a light-radiant cloud said, "This is My Son, marked by My love, focus of My delight. Listen to Him."

The disciples fell to faces in fear. Jesus came over to them and touched them, and said,

Rise and have no fear. (ESV)

In our fears, Jesus does three things:

1. Comes near us.

2. Touches us.

3. Tells us to not be afraid.

He doesn't yell at us from across the room - He walks over to us.

He comforts us with His nail-pierced hands of grace and love.

He tells us to rise and have no fear.

After the disciples encountered Jesus, they opened their eyes and looked around. All they saw was Jesus, only Jesus.

In our fears, do we look around and see only Jesus, or do we see only our circumstances?
