Matthew Four

The devil takes advantage of our weakness.

Jesus fasted for forty days, and, knowing how hungry He would be, the devil tempted him to turn the stones into bread and eat it. Jesus didn't do it. Instead, He quoted the OT. (Do you see the pattern of the NT writers including the OT references? Cool, eh?!)

The second test of the devil was twisting God's Word. Jesus again quoted Deuteronomy.

The final test was the devil "offering" Jesus everything He already owned if He would just bow down and worship the devil. Jesus told him to get away! To beat it! And, served him with more from Deuteronomy.

The devil failed. Christ is victorious. That is the Gospel in a nutshell.

Because Jesus defeated the devil, we, too, can defeat him. We don't have to be overpowered by his temptations, threats, and tests. Greater is the God in us than the devil who is in the world!

When Jesus returned from the wilderness, He got word that John was arrested. So, He moved towns and began preaching, repent! Jesus also started to choose His disciples. He asked men who were devout fisherman to leave their nets and follow Him! And, they did! The five of them (Jesus, Simon, Andrew, James, and John) went all over Galilee teaching people the truth of God and healing people of their sicknesses. Crowds were already beginning to follow Him.

Just as Jesus chose His disciples to follow Him, He also chooses you.

Will you choose today to follow Jesus?
