Matthew Eight

This chapter is all about Jesus showing the people just how much He cares about everything they are going through, and it also shows His power.

First is the set of three people who are suffering with physical illness. There was a leper, a lame man, and a woman with a fever. Jesus healed each one of them.

Second is the multiple people who were brought to Him who were demon-afflicted or oppressed by demons. Jesus relieved their inner torment.

Next is the storm that started up as Jesus and the disciples were crossing the lake. The disciples were afraid and called out to Jesus to save to save them. Jesus spoke to the wind and the waves and the storm stopped.

The final part of the chapter happens when they reach the other side of the lake. They were greeted by two men who were demon possessed. They had been terrorizing the community. Jesus speaks to the demons, commanding them to leave the men, and He sends them into a herd of pigs.

In this one chapter, Jesus showed His power over sickness, nature, and demons. What a mighty God we serve!

Tucked in the middle of this chapter is the brief encounter between Jesus and a Pharisee and another follower. He tells them there is a cost to being His followers - there are no comfy beds and they will have to leave their family behind.

Could you spend the rest of your life not knowing where you are going to lay your head at night?

Would you be able to walk away from your family who is in the process of making funeral arrangements for your father who just passed away?

Choosing to live for Jesus is a big decision and it does come with a cost. However, Jesus holds lot of power, and He cares about every part of our lives.
